Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day: Thursday 7th December
Thursday 7th December, our school will be taking part in Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day. We know times are tough, so please remember that donations are optional (it’s having tons of fun that’s mandatory!) and any amount you can spare – 10p, 20p, 50p – makes you an awesome fundraiser.
Annual Christmas Tree Enterprise project
It’s that time of year again for the orders/sales of our annual ‘100 Christmas tree enterprise project’. This year we will enter our 6th successful year and we are looking forward to the students having some work experience opportunities. It was a fantastic experience for them all last year and we are aiming for this year to be even more successful. We will also be running the project alongside our Duke of Edinburgh students. Visits to the sustainable tree farm have taken place where Tracey & Carl were amazing showing our students around the farm and their Christmas shop!
The last few years we really cut back the scale of how we usually ran the project and paused our expansion plans due to Covid recovery. We continued with two years of pre-ordered trees so thank you for being a part of it. Pre-covid we sold just over 130 trees to our neighbouring community and school communities which was a fantastic year and a real buzz and joy for the students and staff. Each year, all profits have gone into student’s activities such as Rowing for over 12 months. Over the years we’ve had students take part in the enterprise careers model for 4 weeks in school, which we are looking to expand on this year and the school Duke of Edinburgh group have been and done a world of workday at the local family run farm where we source the trees. We visited again following Storm Babet disrupting our first attempt! Students have designed, organised printing, organised and collected donated goods to decorate and support the public tree sales, delivered, unloaded, sold, leaflet dropped, volunteered and so on over the years and will be doing the same this year. These life and work experiences truly are an invaluable opportunity for the students, and we are extremely grateful for your continued support.
This year we are holding two weekends of open sales and collection of pre-ordered trees. We source the trees from a local family run farm where Carl and Tracey are wonderful with our students interesting questions! The trees were cut down for us, Open sales are 25th & 26th November and 2nd & 3rd December 10am-2pm. Make us you’re new Christmas tradition 😊

Local author and poet, John Hughes from ‘The Windows Project’ visited Clifford Holroyde today
Local author and poet, John Hughes from ‘The Windows Project’ visited Clifford Holroyde today to complete a series of creative writing workshops. John worked with Classes 2, 3, 4 and 6. Each class were fully engaged in the sessions and really enjoyed putting their ideas forward. They created some lyrics, short stories and poems. John was impressed with how the students participated in each of his sessions.
Class 3 poetry workshop – Ged Thompson
Today class 3 were visited by local poet, Ged Thompson. Ged led a poetry workshop in which the students were totally engaged and pupils produced their own poem. The boys acted in a very responsible way when discussing the mature topics and themes. Ged and the students really enjoyed the session and it has certainly wetted the appetite for more poetry at Clifford Holroyde.
