Year 10 Work Experience Week – Learning Beyond the Classroom!

This week, our Year 10 students have been stepping out of the classroom and into the real world for their exciting Work Experience Week! It’s been a fantastic opportunity for them to explore different career paths, develop new skills and gain a better understanding of the working world.

Our students have secured a wide range of placements, reflecting their diverse interests and ambitions:

One student has been gaining valuable experience working as a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) in a primary school, learning how to support younger pupils and seeing firsthand what it’s like to work in education.

Three students have been sharpening their customer service and culinary skills in local cafes – from preparing food to handling busy lunchtime rushes.

One student has been working at a fishery, learning about sustainable fishing practices and how to manage day-to-day operations.

Another has been immersed in the past while working at a museum, gaining insights into curation and the preservation of history.

One student has had the amazing opportunity to work in the history department at a university, exploring research methods and assisting with academic projects.

Retail experience has been on the agenda for one student, who has been learning about customer service, stock management, and the fast-paced nature of the shop floor.

Life on the farm has been the focus for another student, who has been getting stuck into the daily routines of animal care and farm maintenance.

Finally, one student has been putting their creative side to work with a placement in painting and decorating, learning about colour palettes, finishes and design.

We’re incredibly proud of the professionalism and enthusiasm our students have shown throughout the week. Work experience isn’t just about exploring future career options –  it’s about building confidence, developing independence, and gaining skills that will last a lifetime.

Well done, Year 10 – we can’t wait to hear more about your experiences when you’re back!
